Zambia has intensified its regional cooperation efforts as immigration authorities continue to respond to rising cross‑border movements in Southern Africa. Recent joint operations with neighbouring countries have highlighted the need for coordinated strategies to address irregular migration, human trafficking, and unlawful economic activities involving foreign nationals. These developments come at a time when Zambia is positioning itself as a regional leader in migration governance and border security.
The latest enforcement operations have resulted in the removal of over 170 illegal immigrants and the arrest of 22 others across Lusaka, Solwezi, and Kasumbalesa. Authorities report that many of those apprehended were involved in activities that violated immigration conditions, including illegal mining and irregular entry into the country. These actions reflect Zambia’s commitment to maintaining lawful migration while safeguarding national security and economic stability.
“The Department of Immigration has reiterated its commitment to enforcing immigration laws to safeguard national security and maintain orderly migration.” — Zambia Department of Immigration Statement.
This renewed commitment underscores the government’s broader strategy to strengthen border management systems and enhance collaboration with regional partners. Officials have emphasized that while Zambia remains open to lawful migration, it will not tolerate activities that undermine public safety or exploit the country’s resources. The government continues to encourage the public to report suspected cases of illegal immigration to support ongoing enforcement efforts.

Regional cooperation has also taken centre stage, with Zambia and Tanzania recently reaffirming their shared commitment to addressing migration challenges along their common border. Joint initiatives are being developed to combat human trafficking, streamline border processes, and improve information‑sharing between immigration offices. These efforts are expected to reduce irregular migration flows and strengthen the overall security framework in the region.
As Zambia continues to modernize its immigration systems and enforce compliance, the country is emerging as a model for balanced migration management in Africa. By combining firm enforcement with regional collaboration and public engagement, Zambia is laying the groundwork for a safer, more orderly, and more predictable migration environment — one that supports national development while protecting the integrity of its borders.
